Foster Program
At Vetese Long Haired German Shepherds we participate and believe in the Foster Program immensely. Because we believe that every dog should have the individual care, time and attention deserved we realize that with owning a multiple number of dogs this is impossible to do and not fair to the dog. We do not believe in nor do we think it is fair that a dog has to live in a kennel with minimal human contact. Unfortunately no matter how good our intentions this is the result of what will happen when you own a large number of dogs at a time, it is impossible to find enough time for each individual dog. This is the reason we developed our Foster Program.
We carefully choose a foster family for our chosen dogs in an effort to be sure they are getting the care required and deserved. These 'foster families' are always someone who is either a family member or close personal friend. The reason for this is we want to be 100% sure that our dogs will be in a good home and we want to be able to frequently have contact with the dog as so we can closely monitor whether or not he/she should be in our breeding program. As well, we have to have a relationship with the dog as so the dog will be comfortable coming to our home when/if it is time to breed and/or have the litter. We do not allow anyone outside of this 'loop' to participate in this program.
How the program works:
We choose a 'pick of the litter' whether it be male or female that we would like to possibly use for our breeding program in the future in that we will see as they grow if they are good enough to be in our program.
The foster family pays nothing for the puppy and they agree that the dog will live with them in their home as a pet/family dog.
They are responsible for all feeding of a proper and recommended diet, socialization, training, vaccinations, deworming, any and all medical bills (excluding hip/elbow xrays, any and all pre/post natal requirements). Basically speaking it is "their" dog in all other forms.
We have full breeding rights and a breeding contract set fourth. The foster family is not permitted to breed the dog.
If at any point we decide that we will not be or no longer be breeding a dog in the foster family we will request that the foster family spays/neuters the dog. At that time the registration papers will be transferred to that foster family as the full owner of the dog.
